Hokkaido Logi Service
Delivering the Future of Frozen Logistics
Hokkaido Logi Service is the driving force behind Coop Sapporo’s home delivery service to nearly two million members across Hokkaido, Japan. At the heart of this operation is the Ebetsu Frozen Center. Purpose built for frozen goods handling, the center processes about 250,000 weekly orders and manages roughly 1,500 SKUs—ensuring households across Hokkaido receive high quality, reliable service even in the challenging winter conditions Hokkaido is famous for.
A Modern, High-Performance Cold Chain Logistics Hub
To create a facility capable of stable, high-volume frozen goods handling, the Ebetsu Frozen Center adopted a suite of advanced material handling technologies designed to deliver efficiency, ergonomics, and cold environment reliability.
-
Mobile Rack: A semi-automated racking system that opens aisles only when needed, reducing required floor space by about 50% and enabling dense, efficient storage.
-
Shuttle Rack M: A shuttle-based, fully automated storage solution designed for –30°C conditions. It houses low frequency items and automatically delivers them to goods-to-person stations, improving picking accuracy and throughput.
-
eye-navi: A picking system powered by wireless displays and RFID. By feeding picking boxes in a continuous, uninterrupted flow, it helps operators work at peak efficiency.
-
Projection Picking: A projector indicates the target location, and sensor detection eliminates the need for button operation. Highly visible guidance improves work speed.
-
Spotlight Picking: Ceiling-mounted spotlights illuminate target items, while voice instructions indicate quantity. This eliminates the need for shelf displays and push-button operations, which also reduces equipment maintenance costs.
Setting a New Standard in Cold Chain Logistics
Automation has reshaped operations at the Ebetsu Frozen Center, delivering major gains in shipping accuracy and customer service. The goods‑to‑person model, powered by automated systems, has also improved workplace ergonomics and reduced the strain on workers, even in demanding sub-zero environments. Building on this success, Hokkaido Logi Service and Coop Sapporo are now looking to roll out the same cutting-edge automated material handling technologies across additional sites, continuing their shift toward a smarter, more efficient, and future‑proof logistics network.
