A temple with 550 years of history

Manshozan Shinkyoji Temple is a Jodo Shinshu temple with 550 years of history. The temple is located in Kuramae, Taito Ward, near popular spots such as Asakusa and Tokyo Sky Tree, and in the summer it is crowded with people watching fireworks along the Sumida River. Despite its convenient accessibility, the temple has a relaxed atmosphere that makes it hard to believe it's in the heart of the city.

A columbiarium with a theme of light and peace of mind

The main hall of Shinkyoji temple was originally a tiled roof building. However, due to the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011, the building was tilted and had to be rebuilt. In Ocrober 2017, the Kuramae Ryoen equipped with the automated columbarium was completed. In response to the wishes of the chief priest to "create a place where everyone can feel the meaning of their birth and the joy of life", it is open to all denominations of Buddism. Kuramae Ryoen was designed to be a building filled with light so that the precious "light of life" can be passed on to future generations. The interior has a chic and modern design using natural materials such as stone, wood and plaster, and is a peaceful space suitable for memorializing a loved one.

7,000 urn boxes housed in a small urban space

The site of approximately 450 square meters houses 7,000 urn boxes. Many compartments have been created in a limited amount of space, while still maintaining a sense of privacy and spaciousness.

The third floor is designed with white as the base color. The lighting is inspired by the "moonlight" and expresses purity and sublimity throughout the entire space without any dullness.
Oyaishi stone is combined with high-grade cypress wood to give it warmth.
The sixth floor was designed with the concept of a "garden of sunshine".
The headstone is made of charcoal gray marble with walnut fittings.
