The Ichikawa Distribution Center operates 365 days a year and handles frozen food products sold at 1,200 major convenience store chains as well as frozen vegetables and seafood that are distributed and processed at the adjacent Ichikawa Distribution Center. The monthly handling volume is about 4,500 tons, with frozen vegetables accounting for half, frozen confectionery for 25%, frozen livestock products for 15%, and other cold foods for 10% of the stored products.

Inventory is replenished by each manufacturer when it falls below the predetermined order point. The distribution flow is as follows: incoming goods are inspected on the first floor and transported to the storage area on each floor via vertical conveyors. Products for immediate shipment are temporarily stored on the first floor and shipped.

Mobile Racks are installed on each of 2nd through 4th floors. The pallet locations are managed as free locations, and the barcodes attached to the shelves can be used to register incoming shipments. For shipments to convenience stores, picking is performed for each store based on orders sent directly from the convenience store headquarters. After shipment, all shipment data is received from the headquarters and reflected in the inventory management data of the center. On the other hand, products for distribution processing are supplied based on the distribution center's delivery instructions.

  • The four-story Ichikawa Distribution Center (front) and the adjacent Ichikawa Distribution Center (right).

  • Cargo handling areas on each floor is maintained at 5°C or lower.

Customer‘s Voice

Toshio Sekiguchi,
Director, Ichikawa Logistics Center

One of the features of the Ichikawa Distribution Center is that it has taken many BCP measures, including the use of seismic isolators as a countermeasure against earthquakes, raising the floor of the first floor and installing important equipment on the roof as a countermeasure against tsunamis, and installing an emergency power supply as a countermeasure against power outages. Mobile Racks have the feature of high storage density. They are also considered to be earthquake resistant because of the presence of dollies under the racks. In addition to controlling the temperature of the cargo handling areas on each floor, we also maintain a positive pressure in the cargo handling area on the first floor to prevent warm air from entering from the outside, and thoroughly control temperature and quality.
