Daifuku Completes New Factory Building for Semiconductor Production Lines

Significantly Enhancing Production Capacity and Development Capability in Response to Growing Market Demand

Osaka, Japan—Daifuku Co., Ltd. (“Daifuku”) completed construction of its new factory building for transport and storage systems for semiconductor production lines on April 3, 2026. The new building is located within Shiga Works (Hino-cho, Shiga Prefecture, Japan), Daifuku’s main manufacturing hub. This new facility will increase domestic production capacity for the company’s cleanroom business by 30%.

Daifuku’s cleanroom business operates production bases in Japan, Taiwan, China, and South Korea, and the company expanded its production capacity in China and South Korea in 2023. Daifuku established this new factory building in Shiga Works to further strengthen its production and development capabilities in line with the growing demand for semiconductors driven by the rise of AI.

The new factory building has a floor area of 19,600 square meters and contains facilities for manufacturing and research and development (R&D), as well as an office space. Daifuku emphasized flexibility in the design of the manufacturing area, allowing for easy changes to layout based on product characteristics and process revisions. By leveraging this flexible environment to continuously advance the sophistication of production processes, the company aims to further improve its production productivity.

The new R&D section consolidates functions previously spread across Shiga Works, establishing a system that enables close collaboration from design through to production. To aid in development, Daifuku has installed a complex test line that replicates the cleanroom environment of a semiconductor fab. By conducting detailed verification during development, the company will reduce on-site adjustment time and achieve shorter project delivery times. Additionally, with a ceiling height of approximately 20 meters, the area is able to accommodate the development of large-scale systems. The new facility will accelerate Daifuku’s development of systems for back-end processes where demand for automation is continuing to grow.

Furthermore, Daifuku designed the new factory with environmental sustainability in mind, constructing a solar power generation system with a maximum capacity of 1,750 kW on the building roof.

Atsushi Sonoda, Managing Officer and Cleanroom Global Business Head, Daifuku Co., Ltd., commented
The new factory building will serve as the core development and production hub for our cleanroom business. By fully leveraging its capabilities, we will swiftly deliver high-value-added systems that meet our customers’ growing needs, thereby contributing to the advancement of the semiconductor industry.
