KLIA2 Airport Kuala Lumpur

The new KLIA2 terminal cost approximately MYR 4 billion and is the largest LCC terminal in the region. It is 242,000 square meters in size and has 68 aircraft parking bays with a 300m long pedestrian sky bridge where aircraft traffic underneath.

Design

Daifuku BCS designed, supplied and installed the automated baggage handling system which consists of:

  • • Over 10km in aggregate length for over 1200 conveyors
  • • Over 2km in aggregate length for 21 carousels
  • • 2 high speed tilt tray sorters
  • • 14 inline screening X-ray machines on the conventional baggage system plus 5 for the out of gauge lines
  • • 250 barcode readers
  • • Complete overhead support structure for the system to allow the baggage handlers complete and open access in the bag room
  • • Unparalleled redundancy within all parts of the system to ensure the airport to ensure maximum uptime for the airport and airlines
  • • Daifuku BCS HLC Airflow system with the complete suite of reports to allow the operational teams to maximize the efficiency of the system
  • • EBS infrastructure for early bags
  • • Daifuku BCS Sym3 3D operations SCADA with live bag tracking
  • • CCTV system for the complete baggage system

  • Carousel for arriving passengers.

OUTCOME/BENEFITS TO CLIENT

The new system has a capacity of 32,000 bags per hour, which is equal to 30-45 million passengers per year. The bag journey on the system is low which allows 100% bag screening for security.
