Daifuku America Receives 2008 ING Ozzie Award

Recognized for Cox Target Media/Valpak manufacturing & distribution project

September 25, 2008 – For its role in the Cox Target Media/Valpak Manufacturing & Distribution Project, Daifuku America was awarded the 2008 International Newspapers Group (ING) Ozzie Award during the Group’s Manufacturing & Distribution Project Partners’ Dinner at its annual conference.

Daifuku’s, engineering design and innovative, automated solutions improved production and distribution accuracy for direct marketer Valpak.

Valpak, operated by Cox Target Media , prints, collates, stores and distributes the familiar blue Valpak coupon envelopes to 45 million households in the U.S. and Canada each month.

Material movement throughout the 470,000 sq. foot automated facility in St. Petersburg, Fla., is enabled through a combination of a Daifuku rack-supported AS/RS, Sorting Transfer vehicles (STVs) and a WMS. Additional vendors working with Daifuku America and also honored with the Ozzie include Fanuc Robotics America (robots provider), Egemin (AGV provider) and Solutions in Action (conveyor provider).

The Daifuku automation equipment is delivering improvements including:

  • Decreased production time that reduced the process of printing, collating and distribution from four days to four hours.
  • Increased accuracy.
  • Reduced labor costs.

“We are dedicated to providing the vision, engineering expertise, and the solutions manufacturing and distribution facilities can rely on to reduce errors, streamline processes, decrease cycle time, recapture floor space and improve productivity,” said Joseph Uhrinek, Daifuku material handling equipment installation manager for the Cox Target Media project. “It is rewarding to be acknowledged for our participation in the ING event as one of the main partners for the Valpak project.”
