Daifuku America Receives 2008 ING Ozzie Award
Recognized for Cox Target Media/Valpak manufacturing & distribution project
September 25, 2008 – For its role in the Cox Target Media/Valpak Manufacturing & Distribution Project, Daifuku America was awarded the 2008 International Newspapers Group (ING) Ozzie Award during the Group’s Manufacturing & Distribution Project Partners’ Dinner at its annual conference.
Daifuku’s, engineering design and innovative, automated solutions improved production and distribution accuracy for direct marketer Valpak.
Valpak, operated by, prints, collates, stores and distributes the familiar blue Valpak coupon envelopes to 45 million households in the U.S. and Canada each month.
Material movement throughout the 470,000 sq. foot automated facility in St. Petersburg, Fla., is enabled through a combination of a Daifuku rack-supported AS/RS, Sorting Transfer vehicles (STVs) and a WMS. Additional vendors working with Daifuku America and also honored with the Ozzie include Fanuc Robotics America (robots provider), Egemin (AGV provider) and Solutions in Action (conveyor provider).
The Daifuku automation equipment is delivering improvements including:
- Decreased production time that reduced the process of printing, collating and distribution from four days to four hours.
- Increased accuracy.
- Reduced labor costs.

The International Newspaper Group (ING) was established in 1975, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to the manufacturing or production operations area of the newspaper printing industry. The ING is a premier organization for newspaper production managers and executives, providing a forum for information sharing.
