Daifuku to Dissolve Exclusive Distributor Agreement for its Bowling Business
Osaka, Japan - Daifuku Co. Ltd., the world’s largest material handling systems supplier has determined to dissolve its exclusive distributor agreement with QubicAMF Worldwide S.a.r.L, (headquartered in Virginia, U.S.; “QAMF”) for bowling alley equipment and related goods that Daifuku’s consolidated subsidiary, Daifuku Plusmore Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo, Japan), currently provides for Japan as QAMF’s distributor, at the end of March 2017.
Daifuku began domestic production of bowling machines in 1963, where it hit a peak in the 70s, supplying bowling machines to about one quarter of all bowling alleys across Japan. Eventually moving away from bowling machine production, in 2006 QAMF and Daifuku agreed to make Daifuku their exclusive distributor in Japan. Daifuku subsequently acquired stock of QAMF’s Japanese subsidiary, QubicaAMF Worldwide LLC, changing its name to Daifuku QubicaAMF Co., Ltd (Now, Daifuku Plusmore Co., Ltd), with it supplying automatic scoring systems, pinspotters, lanes, ball return systems, and goods including pins, house balls and shoes. However, due to decreasing numbers of bowling alleys and bowlers, and resulting challenged growth and development, the Daifuku Group has determined to dissolve the agreement and conclude its bowling operations. From March, 2017, Daifuku Plusmore will aim for growth through its current core product, car washing machines.
